EMI shielding rigid-flex PCB has become a standard configuration for modern high-frequency communication devices. Traditional rigid-flex circuits often suffer from signal crosstalk and electromagnetic radiation in dense RF environments. Adding integrated EMI shielding film solves these pain points perfectly. It keeps the board’s flexible bending capability while stabilizing high-frequency signal output, which is why 5G modules, wearable communication terminals and mini base station units widely adopt this circuit solution. At ANPSE Tech, we focus on process refinement for communication-grade EMI shielded rigid-flex PCB to balance shielding performance, bending durability and signal integrity.
Shielding film lamination is the most critical step in EMI shielding rigid-flex PCB processing. Many factory failures come from improper film pasting and parameter mismatch. We adopt 12μm ultra-thin copper-based shielding film for flexible zones, which can deliver around 25dB noise attenuation at 2.4GHz high-frequency bands. This thickness avoids excessive board rigidity and does not affect dynamic bending performance. During lamination, we maintain a stable temperature of 175°C and vacuum pressure of 2.0MPa, letting the conductive adhesive bond evenly without generating bubbles or edge warping. Even tiny bubble defects will weaken shielding effect and cause local signal interference in actual device operation.
We strictly control the structural cooperation between shielding layer and circuit wiring for communication scenarios. High-frequency signal lines keep a 0.2mm isolation gap from the shielding film edge. This prevents capacitive loading that distorts RF signal transmission. For flexible bending areas, we apply 40% uniform hatch shielding patterns instead of full solid copper coverage. This proven structure balances EMI suppression and mechanical flexibility effectively. It avoids rigid cracking after long-term bending, a common defect in low-standard shielding rigid-flex boards.
Grounding layout directly determines the actual shielding efficiency of custom EMI rigid-flex PCB. Poor grounding will make even high-quality shielding film fail to work. We arrange grounding vias every 5–10mm along the shielding film perimeter. All via holes undergo complete plasma desmear and full tin plating to ensure low-impedance grounding. For independent flexible segments, we adopt single-point grounding design to eliminate ground loops, which is essential for stable transmission of 3GHz and above high-frequency communication signals.
Precision layer alignment and surface treatment cannot be ignored in mass production. We control layer alignment tolerance within ±0.04mm, finer than ordinary rigid-flex boards. This prevents offset exposure of shielding layers and circuit layers. The flex area copper foil adopts low-roughness VLP material with Ra≤0.5μm, which effectively reduces high-frequency insertion loss by about 3dB at 10GHz. It greatly improves the stability of high-speed signal transmission for communication equipment.
Reliability testing for communication-grade products is more rigorous than industrial standard. Finished EMI shielding rigid-flex PCB undergoes 12,000+ bending tests with a standard bending radius. We also conduct professional EMI attenuation testing and full-frequency signal stability verification. Every batch is inspected 100% for shielding film adhesion and circuit conductivity to rule out hidden quality risks.
